As part of the Urban Redevelopment East program, the Ostseeviertel in Greifswald, a prefabricated district on the eastern edge of the city, is being extensively renovated and upgraded. In addition to the conversion, demolition and renovation of the buildings, this also includes the redesign of the open spaces. Tenant gardens were created in the spacious inner courtyards, each of which can be used by several tenants. In addition, generally accessible areas were designed to accommodate uses such as children's play, drying laundry, spending time outdoors, etc. The differences in height between the individual blocks of flats were incorporated into the design and thematized by means of terraces. The building entrances were planned in consultation with the building architects. Garbage bins, bicycle stands, ramps and stairs are integrated into custom-made wall sculptures. C4 was awarded the German Building Award 2007.
