At the interface between the Rhine plain and the Black Forest, the Stegmattenpark, which is divided by fields and poplar forests, is surrounded by new housing estates and commercial areas and thus serves as a connecting space between the cultural landscape and the city. The characteristic foothills of the Black Forest are the connecting leitmotif for the staging of a cultural landscape topography that ensures noise protection along the main roads without acting as a barrier. The central element of the Stegmattenpark is to be a lake. This will extend from the Rhine plain into the Stegmattenpark and open up to the terraced Black Forest slopes. The sunny and south-facing side will be equipped with a bathing beach, water playground, beach bar and lakeside terraces. As an open space, Mauerfeldpark is a social hub for the adjacent districts and will be developed as an intensively usable play, sports and leisure park. The Mauerfeld promenade forms the gap between the intensively used sports and play campus to the east and the Roman gardens with the strip house to the west.
