ParkCity Bad Godesberg
Since the 1950s, Bad Godesberg's city center has undergone a profound transformation process, which is reflected in its urban form, use and society. Today, the city center, as well as the Kurpark, presents itself as a mix of very different architectural styles and models: very heterogeneous, sometimes insensitive, but also surprising and memorable. The BG master plan now offers the opportunity to create an intentional and unique collage with a strong identity, diverse uses and lively public spaces from the often random-looking set pieces of the urban-spatial patchwork: the ParkStadt Bad Godesberg.
Blue-green and networked
A new bridge connects the Kurpark and Godesberg. The hill is intended as a natural adventure space. The Kurpark will be interpreted as an urban city park with versatile communal and exercise areas for all generations as well as its existing cultural offerings.
In combination with the nearby Redoute Park, the needs for a quiet recreational park and a lively city park can be met in equal measure
Climate-sensitive city
To tackle climate change, the city center needs an adaptation strategy that provides climate protection and climate adaptation at various levels. Smaller green spaces are integrated into the streets and on roof surfaces. New squares are designed to be water-sensitive and decentralized surface unsealing and climate-resilient tree and new plantings are supplemented by a "green roof offensive". The spa park will also be activated as a "sponge park".
Strong axes
Our concept focuses on the network of public spaces (streets and squares) and aims to shape the face of the city center through a comprehensive qualification and characterful interpretation of the streets as "strong axes". Each axis forms an independent profile with different characteristics.
Theaterplatz and Platz am Fronhof on the pleasure and culture axis offer space for cultural focal points in particular. The Michaelhof as a spa and water axis offers a green-blue recreational area.
Koblenzer Straße, as an axis of movement in the spa park, brings together various leisure and sports facilities for free use by all generations. The established structure of the renovated Koblenzer Straße in the city center continues to serve as the basis for the shopping axis.
Squares and courtyards
Theaterplatz will be restructured in terms of space and quality of stay by a stepped retention basin with three planting platforms and, in conjunction with the new pavilion square and water mirror, will be strengthened in its representative appearance. The front courtyard retains an open space in front of the Galeria, while a spacious walk-on platform with tree plantings serves to close off the space.
Resilient mix of uses
The city center must be "rediscovered" as a place to live and work, but also as a place of production. We propose specifically strengthening the western, quieter part of the city center as an attractive inner-city residential area and concentrating retail on Koblenzer Strasse and Alte Bahnhofstrasse. Around Villichgasse, a "factory quarter" will enrich the city center with an important use; as a place of urban production and urban manufactories "Made in Bad Godesberg".
From transit space to public space
The long-term car-free city center is supported by improved public transport services, the installation of shared mobility at strategic points and a large mobility hub. Through traffic in Moltkestrasse and Am Kurpark will be greatly reduced; only local residents and buses/taxis as well as customers of the city center will be allowed access. This will also make it possible to connect the two cycle paths from Bonn and the Rhine.
