With the project 'Nördliche Geraaue' (Northern Geraaue), an approx. 4.5 km long and
approx. 60 ha large landscape park will be realized through the northern districts of Erfurt as part of the Buga 2021. The overall measure is divided into eight sub-areas or parks, whereby the office progarten is involved in 4 sections.
In the construction section 'Warschauer Straße', disjointed sub-areas are joined together by the relocation of uses and the demolition of old garages and integrated into the surroundings. The park will receive a new imaginative playground; an existing football field will be rebuilt.
In the area of a former sewage treatment plant, a coherent riverside park in the character of an amphitheatre will be created by lowering the banks and the terrain and taking into account hydraulic engineering measures. The area will be terraced with long seating steps and access to the water will be made possible. In addition, a new play and sports area will be created with an attractive sand playground, a beach volleyball facility and several barbecue areas.
The third construction phase comprises the historic and listed North Park. In the renewal of paths and equipment elements, the focus is on barrier-free access and modern park use. In a ribbon-like sequence, a new attractive infrastructure for Erfurt was created with two playgrounds, a skate park and a multifunctional sports field.
The area of the former garrison hospital serves as the entrance area for the new park facilities. It consists of a central open space field with old trees, which is framed by a rectangle of natural stone blocks. With respect to the preservation of historical monuments, the lazaretto garden will be equipped with seating and sunbathing platforms, while the open spaces in front of the buildings will receive shrubbery areas. The newly created quarter can be used for events. It forms the entrée to the newly designed Nördliche Geraaue and the Nordpark.
