The new schoolyard for the Rüdigerstraße campus is all about "Writing, Speaking, Moving". The placement of the school buildings divides the schoolyard into two separate areas with their own character: the central, paved playground and the park-like, green school open space. The planning was accompanied by intensive participation of the students and teachers.
Green school open space (1st BA, completion 2021)
The open, park-like school open space in front of the school building is divided into different areas by the access paths. The central main path leads from Rüdigerstrasse directly to the main entrance of the school building. Along the cross path, to the right and left in front of the school building, are the school garden and the green classrooms. Here, various seating areas with tables, benches and canopies provide space for learning groups. The large lawn serves as a gymnastics and play area and has been supplemented with apple trees. A curved play path, consisting of stepping stones, balancing elements and play letters, swings between the two play islands and the school buildings across the lawn and further across the school garden to the chill corner on Dietlindestraße. Directly on the main path, a large sand play area with a climbing and slide combination designed around the theme of "painting and writing" forms the centre of this park-like open space.
Fixed break yard (2nd BA, completion expected in 2022)
The sheltered, central break yard consists of a level paved area in which various islands with different play, sport and recreation facilities are located. Six shady lime trees characterize the existing schoolyard and are sensitively integrated into the new design. Around them swings the large sand area, which is equipped with versatile playground equipment for movement and balance. The sprint track, combined with a long jump pit, forms the border to the neighbouring Nibelungen Park with a planting strip.
