Football pitch of the future - Under this heading, the forecourt of the German Football Museum in Dortmund was to be integrated as an entrance to the special exhibition "FootballLife Ruhr Area". The exhibition was part of the series of events marking the end of coal mining in 2018. There was also a desire to give the forecourt a new quality of stay beyond the duration of the exhibition. The different requirements for the flexible playability of the square - e.g. for events or seasonally changing uses - had to be taken into account.
To meet this task, we landscape architects and architects from Planergruppe Oberhausen GmbH formed a team with the scenographers from please don't touch from Dortmund, which is rather unusual in everyday planning
. The different visual meadows on the place and its possibilities led to a modular and mobile equipment, which gives the place a new appearance, which can be changed freely depending upon use cause. The existing elements in the square design were also recoded and refined in the sense of improved address formation.
All the new exposed concrete furniture is based on the 80 x 80cm grid and can be moved underneath with a simple lift truck. This means they can be rearranged as required and can even clear the space for a large event at times. The grid walls attached to the furniture serve as carriers of changing
exhibit contents, but do not come to the fore due to their transparency. In front of the club grill, the existing sunshades were covered in the new color canon and incorporated into two generous seating groups of exposed concrete furniture. Tubs integrated into the seating groups are planted with robust and easy-care beach rye. The lenticular figures appear self-confidently like trophies in their new golden garb and also serve as carriers of changing exhibition contents. The "Cage", a special soccer cage with three goals, provides a lot of rambazamba directly in front of the museum's facade!
