Münzesheim Community School is located in Kraichtal in the district of Karlsruhe. The site is very uneven and has a height difference of over 8 m from southwest to northeast. Therefore, grading over 4 levels was necessary. Existing trees were preserved and partly enclosed with seat walls.
The open spaces of the community school were designed in such a way that they meet a variety of usage requirements, such as communication, play and recreation and outdoor lessons.
Together with the canteen, the newly designed and extended schoolyard forms the "heart" of the new campus. The large paved, barrier-free area can be used freely, meets the children's urge to move, encourages creative use of the space and is also easily visible. Parts are covered to allow use even in bad weather.
Play areas for different age groups and activity zones as well as seating are provided at the edges.
A generous, playable flight of steps connects the
football pitch and parts of the slope into the recreational area. Outside of school hours, the staircase is also used as a theater. The spacious waiting area is located on the forecourt by the flight of steps.
The garden area of the new building was redesigned as an orchard and offers sustainable usage options.
