The square around Ingolstadt's Gothic cathedral is once again being designed as an independent space in the historic old town. Two flat steps lift the cathedral square out of the pedestrian zone. Based on the façade and the entrance portals, the square was designed with clinker bricks in two different laying patterns. The result is a festive apron to the city's largest and most important church.

The design is based on the historical paths from the portals across the cemetery that once existed here. The alternation of clinker paving and lawns responds to the existing trees and accentuates the forecourts at the entrance portals.

All important pathways are designed to be barrier-free. The construction work was preceded by extensive archaeological work. Two large lime trees were transplanted as part of the redesign.
