The Freisinger Domberg is one of the most traditional and culturally and historically significant places in Old Bavaria. Its topographically exposed position as an inselberg at the interface of the Munich gravel plain and the Tertiary hill country promoted this development.
The architectural and immaterial ensemble is of outstanding supra-regional importance. For the area of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, the Domberg is a historical and spiritual source. For the city of Freising and its citizens, it is a landmark, a sign of identification and a home.
The Domberg, with its historic buildings and open spaces, is closely linked to Freising's old town and is intertwined with it in many ways. The properties and areas on the Domberg are very heterogeneous and are owned by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, the City of Freising, the Free State of Bavaria and private owners.
For these reasons and the current developments due to new construction, conversion and renovation measures, the need for a holistic view of the cathedral ensemble and its points of contact with the city arose. The Free State, city and church have a responsibility to keep the significance of the location and the overall ensemble of Freising Cathedral Hill in mind in all considerations.
Only an overall concept that fully considers all areas and current developments can form the framework for the future development of the entire site and serve as its basis. The aim is to motivate and commit all actors, stakeholders and the citizens of Freising to an overall concept.
