The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin conducts basic research in the fields of the structure of matter and solar energy at its Berlin-Adlershof site (Wilhelm-Con-rad-Röntgen-Campus).
The planning and design of the open spaces will contribute to biodiversity. Habitats for native animals and plants as well as a high quality of stay for employees are maintained or created.
In detail, the following measures are being implemented:
- Insect mortality will be counteracted by planting flower-rich perennials and grasses in front garden areas; the lawns will be extensified and developed into diverse herbal lawns.
- slope stabilization of the steep slopes of the bERLinPro hill is carried out by vigorous climbing plants, which make further technical slope stabilization superfluous by covering them with leaves and shoots and by intensive rooting. Irrigation is installed to ensure growth.
- The recreation area will be furnished with benches and tables made from reused wood for use during breaks. Employees will also be offered raised beds for growing vegetables. Nesting boxes and a planting of shrubs support the revitalization of the areas by the bird life. Lawns are being developed into extensive meadows.
