The new commercial and residential building to be built is located in Berlin-Mitte, Gartenstraße 85-87 and Elisabeth-Schwarzhaupt-Platz. A residential building with approx. 81 rental units is to be built.



The site is located on a very uneven topographical terrain, which also has an impact on the entrance areas on the first floor and the connection heights on the outside.



In order to adapt the site to its surroundings, six steps emerge on the side of Juli-Wolfthorn-Strasse to provide access to the higher building on this side. The steps fade away in the direction of Elisabeth-Schwarzhaupt-Platz, so that a barrier-free transition is possible in the area of the passageway entrance to the new building. After the passage, the terrain rises again, but the building is lower on the square side and staggered into different entrance heights. Steps are now required for the entrance areas, which are staggered downwards and then return to zero at the end of the site.



The entire site is situated in a very historic location. On the one hand, the site of the former Nordbahnhof railway station ran along the QAN property, and on the other hand, the border between East and West was located here, which runs directly through the new building to be erected. The already planned Wall memorial surrounding the site is defined by, among other things, Corten steel strips in the ground. This design will be drawn up to the building on the site. In future, the former watchtower will be represented at the same location by a Corten steel strip flush with the ground in the outdoor facilities. In addition, two information steles on the subject of the watchtower and the Wall memorial will be located in the outdoor area.
