The open spaces of the Erasmus Courtyards include the courtyard and access areas on the first floor level, as well as the roof gardens above the new single-storey building and the green roof above the 5th floor of the new street-side building block.
Both the inner courtyard and the intensively greened and landscaped roof area are intended to serve as places to spend time and work outdoors and at the same time significantly increase the proportion of greenery on the property. The new building block along the street will have extensive greenery, but is not designed as a recreational area.
The defining design image for the open spaces is the clear geometric shape of the circle. In the inner courtyard there is a slightly sunken, intensively planted circular inlay. It serves as a recreation area with different, partially covered seating areas and is also the "green lung" of the courtyard, providing shade and cooling and, last but not least, an area for the infiltration of some of the rainwater that accumulates.
An intensively planted roof garden will be created on the roof area above the 1st floor, in which there will be circular lounge islands with various seating options. A terrace along the garden-side façade of the new building provides access to the roof garden.
