Old Malthouse, Karlsruhe

The first construction phase of the inner-city site includes the construction of a new building comprising a nursing home, assisted living, daycare center and commercial units.



The open space planning included the entrance area, which provides access to the other construction phases, an inner courtyard, which is used for both deliveries and recreation, as well as three therapeutic roof gardens. The outdoor facilities had to be planned in the daycare center area. Particular emphasis was placed on creating a clear address and barrier-free access throughout.



The narrowness of the construction site posed a challenge because the almost completely underbuilt areas were to be used multifunctionally and a high quality of stay was to be achieved. High requirements regarding intensive green roofs had to be taken into account.
