Following the relocation of industrial railroad facilities, the city of Riesa can once again turn its attention to the Elbe. Starting from the city center, the "Elblinie" will create a new open space connection along the riverbank. It crosses the harbor access road to the north via a new bridge and also integrates the Gröba district. One component of this new open space axis is the supra-regional Elbe cycle path, which is important for tourism in the city of Riesa.
The concept developed in the planning integrates the cycle path and links it with surrounding open spaces such as the campus of the vocational academy.
The addition of a weather-protected bicycle shelter and a viewpoint have improved the comfort and attractiveness of the route. The city of Riesa's position as a steel industry location has given rise to a design theme for the objects, offering cyclists traveling from afar an original experience of the local features.
