The area is centrally located in Erfurt's old town in the immediate vicinity of the Krämerbrücke. It is surrounded by dense buildings, narrow alleyways and is located on the wide river Wilde Gera. Supra-regional cycle path connections and important urban axes are tangential to the complex.
The typical Erfurt motif of "green islands" on the Gera was taken up formally and functionally. Three characteristic sub-areas were created: the Breitstrominsel, the square between Horngasse and Krämerbrücke and the green space at the Gotthardtstraße playground.
As a "green carpet", the Breitstrominsel connects the open spaces to the north and south of the Krämerbrücke. Generous lawns, characteristic fruit trees and restrained fortifications characterize the place and set the bridge appropriately in scene.
The versatile, barrier-free square between Horngasse and Krämerbrücke serves as an urban counterpart. Three upstands planted with perennials structure the square. They integrate the mighty existing trees and thus create green islands in the urban environment. Towards the Gera, a generous, extended water staircase creates places to linger.
