On the Mauerpark site, the border initially ran along Schwedter Strasse. The Hinterland wall was also the boundary of the Jahn sports stadium to the west.
Because of the lack of a border strip to the west, the GDR sought an exchange of territory. This took place in 1988 and the border was moved west to the current western border of Mauerpark. In exchange, Berlin (West) received the Lenné Triangle at Potsdamer Platz. The Vorderland wall was moved accordingly, but the stadium access to the west was not built.
