Park at the Red Tower, Chemnitz City Hall Park

Until 1945, a small casino garden next to the Red Tower was located on the site of today's parks, enclosed by dense inner city development.
In World War 2, the area was completely destroyed. From 1964 to 1974, the city center was rebuilt, into which the new park at the Red Tower, designed by Karl Wienke and lavishly furnished, was embedded. The park is furnished with works of art and planted in many different ways.
After a complete renovation, the Park am Roten Turm was reopened in 2001. The fountain appears slightly redesigned due to engineering adjustments and is now integrated into the plaza during the winter months. The park is enriched by additional plantings of perennials, bulbs and potted plants.
For the design of the Karl-Marx-Stadt City Hall complex was awarded the National Award of the GDR in 1976.
