As part of the investment program of the Federal Ministry of Construction, funds were released in 2011 to restore the public green spaces in the White City in Reinickendorf, which together with six other settlements was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
Designed in 1930 by the garden architect Ludwig Lesser, the central promenade had become a lawn. The central island in front of the famous bridge house in the south was cleared of vegetation and the surrounding hedge was replanted. Between Emmentaler Straße in the south and Lindauer Allee in the north, a path connection with a water-bound surface was re-established on a total of four central islands on the basis of a previously prepared expert opinion on the preservation of historical gardens, and the kerbstones were lowered. This means that it is now possible for residents and tourists to walk comfortably along the length of the estate again.
