The townscape of the medieval merchant town of Gölitz has been almost completely preserved in the centre. From the mid-1990s onwards, the town redesigned squares and streets, as well as the remaining kennel complexes of the historic town fortifications, which can now be experienced on a circular route. The ox kennel dates from 1962/63, and the fountain terrace and the landscaped southern part were reconstructed in 1998/99 in accordance with the preservation order. In spring 2000, the Upper Terrace was redesigned by the Civil Engineering and Parks Department of the Görlitz City Council.
