The Wuhlepark was realized by gruppe F as part of the Landsberger Tor urban development project in Berlin-Marzahn.
Special play, sports and recreation areas were integrated into the wide meadow areas. Among other things, a climbing wall was created for children and young people.
A play and sports forum for young people was created in the immediate vicinity of the "Anna Landsberger" youth center. One focus was the special consideration of the interests of young girls. Group F conducted two workshops with the Marzahn girls' center. The results formed the basis for the layout of the play and sports forum.
The edge of the slope between the residential area and the park was emphasized with balconies and spacious access areas. The rainwater retention basin was incorporated into the design and can be experienced by visitors as a water area.
Not a classic park, not just a meadow. The design was awarded first prize in the international landscape planning competition "Wuhlepark Landsberger Tor" in 1997. The aim is to design the edge of the city by developing strong landscape structures that consciously stage the hybrid state of the no longer rural, but not yet urban space as an urban fringe situation. In its generous expanse, the new park forms an exciting mixture of natural landscape, artificial inclusions and urban elements. The wide meadow space is characterized by individual groups of trees, sparse pathways and the "loci spectabile", special places that invite visitors to appropriate the space. Quiet meadow areas with unpretentious vegetative space formation - attractions for intergenerational recreation on the outskirts of the city. Special places (LOCI) as an attraction. Playing with the expanse and the view, the power of the contrast between strict and flowing, are elements of the park. Playing is encouraged! Play areas have been created for children and young people, especially girls.
400 meter wave
After winning the international competition for the "Wuhlepark", the "Stadtgarten" was the first construction phase. The elongated city garden is characterized by the striking, wave-shaped ground modelling. The special places to spend time are stamped into the waves of grass. The vegetation marks the qualities of the places, groups of shrubs that dance with the wave, tree blocks in urban places, groves as landscape quotes. The concrete wall is a clear boundary and thus marks the lawn wave as a ground sculpture. The swivel chair, bench and wastepaper basket, specially developed for this project, characterize the central square.
Jury verdict: Although the authors use familiar design elements in their design, they succeed in creating a high-quality park in a situation that has been neglected in terms of urban development. In collaboration with residents, a site was created that opens up meeting spaces and new communication opportunities for people through the targeted use of landscape architectural objects.
In the process, the course of the Wuhle was integrated in a formative way.
The result is a quotation of large-scale urban landscapes in a prefabricated housing estate that is close to the city.
