Jury verdict: In the Munich suburb of Au, GWG Städtische Wohnungsgesellschaft München mbH has modernized a residential quarter built in the 1950s, located directly at the foot of the steep Isarhochufer on the Auer Mühlbach, and in the process has greatly upgraded it both structurally and in terms of urban space. The jury of the special award for the residential environment was particularly impressed by the open space planning of the Munich office Teutsch-Ritz-Rebmann landscape architects.
The authors have reshaped the previously rather barren or overgrown gaps between the largely parallel standing bars with site-appropriate perennials, grasses and shrubs to the year-round experience space, through which paved new paths through.
Even passers-by who want to cross from the surrounding residential areas to the green spaces on the other side of the Mühlbach, and who previously experienced the settlement only as an obstacle, now allow themselves to be drawn through the inviting green alleys, at the ends of which cross-paths and bridges lead to the nearby facilities. In the courtyard-like extensions between the blocks, however, children's playgrounds have been laid out, benches installed and the old tree population subtly thinned out and supplemented.
