Jury verdict: The housing cooperative FrauenWohnen e.G. has built a residential complex with 49 residential units and communal areas in Munich-Riem. Individuality and retreat possibilities are just as much a concept as communal togetherness and mutual support on a voluntary basis
.
The open space concept is a reflection of this. The issue of zoning has been well resolved. The communal residential courtyard with its different qualities of stay allows a high degree of communication without appearing deliberate. The privately usable open spaces to the south and west of the development turn away from the courtyard into their own outdoor space and are excellently designed. The use of rainwater has been skilfully incorporated.
With the idea of allowing the gravel area in the courtyard to develop on its own, the ecological requirements for future residential complexes have also been skilfully taken into account and innovatively solved.
