Ev. Fröbelseminar Kassel

The Protestant Fröbelseminar has been training social education specialists in Kassel since 1896. The new school building with library is arranged with the old building around a courtyard. The cafeteria and auditorium are the centre of the training centre, where communication is very important. The Fröbel pedagogy is based on basic geometric shapes (sphere, cube, cylinder) and thus has similar design approaches as the Bauhaus. This design idea was transferred to the building and open spaces.
The open spaces interpret Fröbel's design concept. Parallel to the newly created building extension, main and side entrances and various courtyard areas of the school have been redesigned. Vegetative elements such as hedge blocks and grass beds, cubic seating steps and in-situ concrete walls structure the areas. This has created atmospherically dense open spaces with a differentiated quality of use and stay.
