Lageplan © 2014 Lohaus Carl Köhlmos
With the development of the Neue Schule Wolfsburg, an educational campus was created at the foot of the Klieversberg, consisting of the existing and planned primary, lower and upper secondary schools, the planetarium, the Schauspielhaus, the art museum and the municipal library in the southern part of Porschestrasse, the refectory in the Congress Park, the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in the west and the new sports hall at the multi-storey car park. Through open space planning interventions, this area was networked into an educational location.
The master plan specified a main path network oriented to the contour lines with clod-like, differently usable path attachments as a design principle for the formal language. Topographic bands, pathways, plazas and learning spaces were arranged according to this principle, with the topographic bands forming the main connecting strands. The New School has a basic orthogonal structure due to the integration of the existing building. However, this structure was overlaid to the north towards the city, but especially to the south towards the Klieversberg with the clod-like overall structural network, which extends into the courtyards of the existing building. Playing with the topography, this created exciting spaces in between for breaks and outdoor lessons.
