The newly designed "Green Center Heimfeld" on Homannstraße is a modest, unpretentious neighbourhood oasis in the middle of a heterogeneous settlement structure that had changed considerably in the course of the demolition of barracks facilities and the construction of the new Gildering development area by 2014. During the redesign of the green space designed by POLA, particular attention was paid to the use of robust, low-maintenance materials and suitability for senior citizens.
The green space has a classic design with double-row hornbeam hedges and low willow trees. Curved paths made of colored in-situ concrete and gently sculpted grassy hills interact harmoniously with each other. Extensive plantings of grasses meander on and beside the grassy knolls, while twelve newly planted specimen trees complement the old trees. Long benches made of glazed wood provide opportunities to linger at the square-like widenings. Despite this dynamic design - or perhaps because of it? - the square today has a pleasantly calming and centering effect on visitors.
