Hortzentrum Waren West

The after-school centre is located in the centre of the former GDR new building area Waren-West. With the decline in student numbers after the political turnaround, the school was no longer used since the year 2004.
In 2006, a partial demolition of the former school building of the type "Erfurt" took place; afterwards, the remaining part of the building was supplemented with an external staircase for the required additional escape route and renovated and converted for use as an after-school centre.

The open spaces were redesigned in 2011. There are two main accesses: a functional access to the buildings and the access to the play areas. A roller track is a play path and at the same time a path to play niches. The large courtyard area is a meeting point, recreation and play area at the same time. The edge areas are accentuated by terrain modelling. Shrub plantings serve as privacy screens and separate the play areas from each other.
