Vogelsang

The approx. 100 ha large area around the former NS-Ordensburg "Vogelsang", which is located in the middle of the national park, was used as a military training area by the British and later by the Belgian armed forces after the Second World War. Both the Ordensburg itself, as well as the surrounding buildings (cinema, swimming pool, comradeship houses...) were neglected as well as the listed open space elements (Thing site, sports site, war memorial...).

In the run-up to the new construction of the information and documentation centre, the significant open space structures in the surroundings of the Ordensburg were redeveloped. The historical structures of the extensive open spaces were carefully restored in close consultation with the monument preservation authorities and representatives of the nature conservation authorities and associations.
