Clarholz Monastery, which has been owned by the Bentheim Tecklenburg Princely House since secularisation, is an important cultural and historical monument in East Westphalia. As part of the "Garden Landscape OWL" project, the outdoor facilities of the former Premonstratensian monastery were renovated with public funds.
The guiding idea behind the measures was not a detailed reconstruction of the magnificent Baroque ensemble, but the attempt to make the entire complex as a sequence of different buildings, courtyards and garden spaces tangible again and open it up to visitors.
Through careful partial reconstructions, the charming location of the monastery in the surrounding cultural landscape was re-emphasized and the charm and special atmosphere of the place was strengthened.
