Central city square at the university campus
In the city centre, surrounded by St. Mary's Church and prominent buildings of the European University Viadrina, lies the new "University Square". It is divided into a spacious paved area, tree-lined lawn terraces and a forecourt at the future new building. Individual places to stay are created under existing trees and on seating elements called "campus cushions" in the solid colours yellow and blue. There is space for events on the continuous concrete paving.
City square, lawn terraces and forecourt
Between Priestergasse and Audimax, lawn terraces with wide concrete seating walls are located under existing lime trees and new rock pines as meeting places for students and visitors. On the area of the planned new building, there are bamboo stelae over four meters high until the start of construction, which separate the Oberkirchplatz with an inviting action and recreation area from the University Square.
The Priestergasse was lowered and connected to the Logenstraße according to its historical course. Here are pole lights as in the old town. The square itself is illuminated by striking modern light fixtures as well as light bands on six "campus cushions".
