Tourism development in the city of Eckernförde, redesign of the harbour promenade as a recreation and event area.
Due to the change in the economic structures of the port, Eckernförde has the necessity and at the same time the opportunity to give its port a new meaning with leisure and tourism-oriented uses. The motto "from commercial harbour to tourist harbour" then had programmatic significance for the planning. For many visitors, such as permanent residents and day trippers from the surrounding area, the port is a destination. They expect a harbour with movement and the typical harbour sights, which make the visit interesting: Fishing - fishing boats dock, fish is put into boxes and loaded, fishermen repair their nets, fresh fish is sold, plus traditional ships that regularly stay in the harbor, the marina, excursion shipping. All together with the corresponding offers of retail trade and gastronomy form an interesting scenery for the visitor. This tourist highlight was developed with the realization of the new harbor promenade, the port was staged touristically and has become tangible for the visitor.
Design
With the redesign, the harbor promenade has also become the central event area of the city. Due to its strongly interconnected sub-areas, the harbour promenade is given a spacious area that can also be used for large-scale events. The area gets its structure and rhythm from the lively pattern of the stone surface, "wave banks" with a length of up to 20 m and the seating object "buoy" at the sports boat harbour form orientation points and spatial edges. The wave banks have been moved to the quay edge to position the visitor close to the events of the harbour. The completed section is one of three subsections of the entire promenade.
