New construction of an extension to the IGS Comprehensive school Bovenden

The design of the outdoor facilities for the extension of the IGS Bovenden offers the students attractive recreational qualities and integrates the building harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.
Due to the existing slope situation, the outdoor space is divided into an upper and a lower level, each of which creates terrace-like spaces.
The upper level establishes the connection between the existing building and the school extension and serves as a waiting area for the time before and after classes. Seating provides space for observation and interaction between students.
The basic idea behind the design of the lower level is to create a quiet zone. "Chill corners", a wooden podium, further seating elements, structuring hedge elements and sufficient space for privacy invite to linger and "switch off", to exchange in the clique or even to do homework. The wooden podium can also be used as a stage or for outdoor lessons.
Contemporary materials such as seating elements made of gabions and pathways made of colored plastic surfaces set accents and allow for a young, modern design for the students as primary users of the outdoor facilities.
