In 1998, a two-phase planning competition is held in which 62 offices participated. The consortium Pit Müller / AG Freiraum / Manfred Morlock emerged from this procedure as the 1st prize winner. The work is appreciated by the jury as follows:
"The exemption of the bath house by the improvement of the footbridge is clearly welcomed, the consideration is evaluated as an important urban contribution".
"The overall attitude of the park has a clear relationship to the site. The floodplain, which is kept open, provides a great deal of amenity space. Visual references are taken into account and the concept is convincing in its restraint".
"The work is well thought out throughout. It offers an expandable basic structure, for example also for imponderables".
In the years 2002 to 2006 the park is realized, in the garden show year 2006 over one million visitors could be registered.
The Brenzpark has since received two awards:
In 2007, the facility was recognized with an award as part of the "Zukunftsfähige Stadterneuerung in Baden-Württemberg - Bauherrenpreis 2000-2006" procedure.
In 2012, the park was honored with an award as part of the award procedure of the Chamber of Architects of Baden-Württemberg "Exemplary Building in Baden-Württemberg in the District of Heidenheim".
That the park has arrived in the midst of the population is also evidenced by the fact that a now founded "Friends of Brenzpark Heidenheim" has over 2500 members.
