Saxon Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired Chemnitz

Inaugurated in 1905, the former "Royal Saxon Educational Institution for the Blind and Feebleminded" marks an important step in the development of institutional construction in the early 20th century due to its combination of urban planning, architecture, open space design and social history.



The property, which covers around 21 hectares, is a listed building. Today, the complex is home to the Saxon School for the Blind and other facilities for the rehabilitation of blind children and young people.



In the vicinity of the renovated old buildings and a new school building, the focus is on redesigning the network of paths, the gardens, playgrounds and open spaces for the school as well as the trees and shrubs in accordance with the preservation order.



Particular attention is being paid to reconciling the requirements of a modern school and rehabilitation facility for the blind with the interests of monument preservation.
