After the end or the relocation of the port operation and the construction of the flood protection wall after the flood of the Oder in 1997, the entire inner-city area of the bank of the Oder in Frankfurt is accessible and could be designed according to its importance as an exposed urban space and connected with the adjacent landscape area of the Oder. The functional and design features of the various urban structures bordering the Oder were incorporated and a promenade park was created. Extensive sports, play and leisure facilities characterise the area. Equipment elements such as benches, bicycle stands and lights were developed for this construction project, as were the pergolas.
