Landscape Architecture as a Motor | Recognition German Landscape Architecture Award 1999
As a district of Eberswalde, the Brandenburg Quarter has an overarching relationship with large parts of the city and the surrounding landscape. In its internal structure, the quarter is nevertheless to be regarded as a spatial and functional continuum. The approaches for the landscape architectural interventions result from these two levels of consideration: The proposed interventions respond to the settlement's relationship with the city by delineating large spaces within the residential complex with a higher-level function and strengthening their significance. In the interior with its partial and individual spaces, additional design principles are developed for. Object and traffic system planning are interlocked with each other. We made concrete design proposals for six urban elements. Area distributions and room sequences, plant use and material suggestions guarantee the recognizability of the respective space typologies.
Design does not start from scratch, the recognized qualities form a foundation stone and are the bridge from the past into the future.
