The idea of the redesign follows the idea of a "green school".
The high degree of sealing of the courtyard area was reduced and the image of a tree-lined green courtyard with many lawns was created. The existing small planting areas were widened. They became carriers of the idea as moving natural forms. Wide and narrow areas offer variety and form several seating and play corners for the different age groups.
The paving of the paved areas is designed as percolating paving. The ancillary areas, which are predominantly located in the peripheral areas, are designed as lawns; they absorb the surface water of the paved areas during heavy rainfall events.
The schoolyard of the Hanno Guenther School and the forecourt of the primary school wing each have a "green island". They are lightly modelled lawns, which are bordered by 40cm high seat walls made of red clinker. In addition, there are seat walls made of the same material at various points, which provide opportunities for pupils to spend time informally. In the area of the garden to the south of the buildings, a "green classroom" will allow open-air teaching in fine weather.
