With the decision of the city of Torgelow to expand the school in Albert-Einstein Straße to an open all-day school, the school location is secured for a long time. With the profiling as an all-day school, the age-appropriate alternation of tension and relaxation and the meaningful leisure activities have been taken into account. An age-appropriate redesign of the schoolyard plays a central role in this.
The aim of the redesign of the schoolyard was to create the conditions for better active recreation of the students during breaks as a basis for a quality leap in the education of the students. In order to achieve the best possible design within the framework of the appropriate possibilities for the school operation, the ideas and conceptions of the school (teaching staff and pupils) were incorporated into the design of the schoolyard in two workshops held with the specialist planners. With the redesign of the schoolyard, the overall renovation of this school location could be completed.
The idea is based on the shift in perception between fast and slow movement.
A multiple folded seating wall encompasses the entire movement area and forms niches and places for small and larger groups to stay.
Two islands enclosed by seat walls give the now open courtyard area a stronger subdivision and create spatially differentiated recreational niches. Six such niches were equipped with protective roofs, which function as meeting points for the students.
Central action areas form the ball game field and two street ball fields, which were supplemented by further offers such as table tennis.
In the design, the existing tree population was largely preserved. In addition, 12 trees were newly planted as replacement planting, 2000sqm as a lawn.
