As a contribution to the festival "The Journey of Plants" in the context of the Capital of Culture 2007 Luxembourg and Greater Region, it was obvious to enrich the idyllic cottage garden with flowering perennials, which in the spirit of the festival tell interesting stories of their journey from distant climes and to the Central European cottage gardens.
Under the leitblid "travel fever

Many ornamental and useful plants are perceived as typical farm garden plants and have always been native to Central Europe. In fact, the peony, for example, was only brought to the northern edge of the Alps in the early Middle Ages with Benedictine monks and from there made its way into the farmer's gardens.
But who today still knows these anthropogenically influenced travel stories of historical garden plants? Which plants were brought to other regions for their healing power, their beauty or for economic reasons? Did the plants come to us as wild types and were they only then further developed through breeding? This knowledge is a part of our horticultural history and at least as important as the gene pool of historical plants. It is a pool of stories that establishes a connection to the history of mankind as a whole.
With the design "Travel Fever and Flower Poetry", both are to be brought back into the interest and perception of visitors. This is implemented with old varieties of flowering perennials, which are planted according to country of origin and provided with background information. The design framework is formed by a newly interpreted formal basic grid of historical farm gardens, which is framed by sweeping willow borders. As an interactive component, visitors are expressly permitted to bring plants, especially perennials and summer flowers, to the Winseler farm garden, to plant them, and to take offshoots or seeds from there to other regions in order to contribute to the dissemination and active preservation of this cultural asset and the primarily old varieties.
On the website, visitors could enter their activity as "plant hunters" and the new location of the "plant loot" in an easy-to-use GIS application. Among all participants, who had documented in this way the geographical further spread of the old cultivated plants over the festival period, finally valuable region-typical prices were drawn by lots.
The ceremonial opening was supported with a guidance and a lecture to the topic migration of farmer garden plants.
A care concept was compiled for the short to medium-term maintenance of the festival contribution.
