The BioCube is the spatial extension of the Bio-City and was designed by the same team of architects, Spenger-Wiescholek Architekten, Hamburg GFSL. The laboratory cube dominates its surroundings with its lamellar, colored aluminum façade. The open spaces provide the necessary framework in a restrained manner. The design is characterized by simple and intelligently functional precast concrete elements. Retaining walls, tree locations, kerbs, waste disposal areas, parking lot numbers and the entrance stele form a specially developed series. Uniformity in color tone, surface quality and component grid allow for harmonious variations in details and element heights. By combining and integrating various functions into these elements, it was possible to counteract the "cluttering" of the open spaces with technical facilities (such as fire water supply points, waste garbage cans, signage, alarm and security equipment).
