The redesigned inner courtyard offers a quiet place to stay in the urban university life of Heidelberg's old town. A green square of lawn forms the formal connection to the stone square of the public university square. The clarity of the landscape architectural form language characterizes the composition. Significant trees, a historic fountain and two sculptures are integrated into the concept. Three powerful long benches made of massive shell limestone blocks mark this lawn.

For the anniversary year of the 625th anniversary of the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg, the inner courtyard of the building of the New University was redesigned. The New University is located in the historic city centre of Heidelberg, directly at the Universitätsplatz. The courtyard to the south of the building is a popular retreat in Heidelberg's busy old town. Students and visitors to the city or the university like to use the courtyard as a meeting place and recreation area during the day. The courtyard is also often used for events in the building of the New University.

The concept of the redesign of the courtyard transfers the square figure of the stone plaza of the University Square in the north in the form of a green square inlay into the courtyard. The former, very heterogeneously designed courtyard is thus given a calm appearance and a clear formal expression.

The green lawn carpet is framed by three long, powerful benches made of solid shell limestone blocks. The grass carpet is surrounded by paved areas made of shell limestone slabs and water-bound cover, which are designed as terraces and multifunctional areas.

The clarity of the landscape architectural design language characterizes the composition. Significant trees, a historic fountain and two sculptures are integrated into the concept.
