Perspectives are created by opening up, two empty buildings are demolished within the perimeter block development. In this way, the working-class milieu at the rear, which has meanwhile fallen into oblivion, is given an unexpected appreciation. The university campus formulates a new address and develops a completely new knowledge landscape from an urban wasteland, a place for meeting and communication in the middle of the Obere Vorstadt. In a construction period of only nine months, an ensemble has been created from a historic factory site from 1897 and an annex from the 1950s through conversion, renovation and redesign, which together with the open spaces forms a contemporary overall concept.
The open space planning for the university campus is a component, a building block of an overarching concept, which includes the urban connections from the city centre via the bus station, through the campus to the park of the old cemetery. The university campus is the architectural highlight and impulse generator for the entire city quarter.
