Play and recreation areas in the city centre of Arnstadt Open space design in the area of Marktstraße / Ledermarktgasse / Untere Marktstraße

In the middle of the town centre, the town of Arnstadt wanted to redesign three neighbouring, unattractive wastelands and put them to proper use.

On the south-facing area 1, modern playground equipment and adventure and climbing slopes planted with shrubs enable interesting and varied playing, moving and resting on three terrain levels. The play area is enclosed with a wall that closes the space from the street and acts as a play wall (artist Stapf).

Area 2 serves as a public lounge area. A variety of seating and lounging options invite visitors to linger; sophisticated, playable art objects (artist Stapf) make the stay interesting for young and old.

Area 3, a north-oriented building gap framed by building facades, serves as an urban space for economic functions. A pergola covered with vegetation, which takes up the storeys of the neighbouring buildings, closes the interrupted spatial edge along the street.
