The inventory makes it clear that not only from an aesthetic point of view does the inner courtyard not offer any quality of stay. Also, the wall, which protects the second part of the inner courtyard, which is up to 4 meters higher, poses a major problem: A complete renovation is out of the question for reasons of cost, and one does not want to touch the terrain behind it under any circumstances. Although the wall is stable, it is crumbling in many places and looks extremely ugly. Mortaring and repainting would only be very short-term solutions.

Niches and cavities that are no longer needed are bricked up, extremely dilapidated areas are concreted out. The old wall will be given a new wall crown: this will prevent water from penetrating from above and create a level finish for the future upper edge of the terrain and the new railing on the upper level.

The planning idea for the renovation comes from gabion construction: a bar grid is hung in front of the old wall and then filled with crushed stone. The lattice protruding from the top is then bent over to form the new wall crown.

Two-coloured gravel (sand-coloured Jurassic limestone and anthracite-coloured basalt) is filled in layers between the existing wall and the curtain grid and compacted to ensure settlement. While the terrain in the courtyard falls sharply, the colour separation of the two gravel materials is planned in the balance.

New concrete block steps are mortared onto the old steps. To the right and left, the old wall is clad with custom-made Corten steel walls. Steel swords are mounted on the new wall crown, and after completion of the top ballast basket, the new railing is installed.
