The redesign of the outdoor facilities became necessary due to the new construction within the framework of the open all-day school. A new building block connects the two existing school buildings of the Christopherus and Erich-Kästner schools with each other.
The new building divided the former contiguous break yard area and reduced its surface area. The possible recess yard use of both elementary schools could now only take place on the southern recess yard. The aim of the planning was to create a new spatial programme with the most diverse, exciting and varied recreational and exercise areas possible.
The main design idea is 'The Red Carpet' - the Red Carpet is rolled out for the children as the main characters of everyday school life, through which they enter the school.
The second essential element is the play worm. A colorfully designed asphalt surface that visually connects the individual recess yard areas in a playful manner.
After completion of the construction project, there were significant difficulties with the tightness of the new flat roof. After completion of a procedure for the preservation of evidence and a successfully carried out roof renovation, the client decided to upgrade the flat roof area with an extensive green roof. With the extensive green roof, a solar system was installed that did not penetrate the waterproofing. The sprout seeding has now become well established.
The green roof was carried out in 2010/2011.
