The idea for the design of the university terraces develops from the landscape situation. The characteristic, picturesque meadow valley that leads up the slope to the university buildings is continued in the university's outdoor facilities and taken up as a design theme. A high quality of stay was created via seating steps and terraces for the
outdoor catering.
The seating steps have a slight undercut so that the plant appears lighter. Likewise, the woody plants of the blossom grove play into the landings to connect the landscape and the stairway. The seat steps have a dyed and surface-treated natural stone facing that matches the color of the natural stone chippings on the surfacing areas. The seat pads made of acrylic-bonded solid surface material also match in color.
Light stelae in a differentiated and varied arrangement as well as in the inclination of the undercut of the seat steps illuminate the facility. Their light cones secure the stairway at night and at dusk and illuminate the terraces. A grove of cornelian cherries blooms very early in bright yellow. As native woody plants, they have an appropriate effect in the transition to the landscape space of the Eselsberg, and as large shrubs they do not obstruct the view from the refectory and the cafeteria into the landscape.
