Heilbronn Education Campus

The new outdoor facilities of the Heilbronn Education Campus are characterised by two different areas: The actual interior area of the campus, which is surrounded by the buildings, and the outdoor area with the car parking spaces in the transition to the green spaces in the west and to Dammstraße in the north. The inner area is accessed via a continuous paved surface. Some of the pavement runs into the buildings and extends as an inviting gesture in the direction of the city centre as far as Mannheimer Straße.

The covering consists of ashlar slabs with a selected surface. Their widths are derived from the grid of the building. Sculptural letters convey the logo of the overall facility to the outside. The heart of the campus is a clear rectangular shape as a lawn embedded in the pavement. The rectangle presents itself as a section of a moving landscape. The undulating movement of the lawn allows the edge of the surface to partially protrude at seating height and creates a breakaway edge from the mirror-shaped
water feature on the western edge. A grove of ornamental trees stands atop the second, taller "crest of the wave" in the tension point of the open space. Outside the campus, areas are landscaped to the north and west in keeping with the Neckar Park concept. Loose groups of trees and groves with site-appropriate woody plants of the Neckar Valley lead into the park. The existing row of linden trees
along Dammstraße closes off the area to the north.
