As a quiet courtyard in a lively business environment, a place for festive occasions and a meeting place for special cultural events, the monastery courtyard is designed as a modern hortus conclusus: A place of tranquility with open doors, where a rich history meets the space for diversity and movement of today.
The courtyard includes three defining design elements: 4 garden beds are symmetrically divided by the earth-colored clinker pavement in the footprint and formulate the characteristics of the seasons with creamy white flowering perennials. A repaired water basin reflects the centering middle in the monastery courtyard. Apple trees with loose-growing crowns develop flowering and at the same time protective umbrellas in the free-standing planters. The planters, also dark earth-colored, form a sculpted interplay with the pavement carpet.
Overall, the redesign unfolds a soothing balance and restraint. The materialization and color scheme is based on familiar models of history and at the same time conveys the awareness and openness to create something new.
