Redesign of the main square Landsberg a. Lech

Traffic

Concept I The relocation of the state road to the east side of the fountain creates space for an extension of the pedestrian zone on the north and west side of the square and a car-free connection to the attractive bank of the Lech. With the fountain in the back, an open, flexibly usable urban open space was created. Front zones of shops and cafes spread out on the areas freed from traffic.

A uniform representative urban floor of sawn paving slabs extends from facade to facade. The original lech pebble paving is quoted at the transitions. The traffic is guided discreetly but clearly legible over the uniform city floor by inlaid barrier-free gutters in the pavement. Public transport is well integrated with well-frequented barrier-free bus stops.

Traffic and parking I Despite the high traffic load and designated state road, the concept is oriented to the image of equal traffic and is based in principle on the "traffic-calmed business area". A speed limit of 20 km/h applies on the roadway, motorised traffic in the side streets and on the square has been prevented as far as possible. The pedestrian zone is extended to the roadway. Bicycle traffic is freely possible and desirable within this system across the entire square. In view of the now good supply of parking space close to the centre, the parking spaces on the square have been reduced to the most necessary for deliveries, taxis and disabled persons.

Materials

City Floor I The woven bond is appropriately fine-grained over the large area, connecting uniformly as well as optically directionless. It can be developed cost-optimized from only two different stone sizes. The even and relatively large surfaces of the sawn and flamed natural stone allow both pleasant walking and the desired reduction of rolling noise in the driving area.

Material I The main square is in direct competition with the inviting Lech shore with its glittering water. In contrast to the rather darker pavement along the river, the main square should capture sunshine with its pavement and convey appealing friendliness. Therefore, an appealingly light as well as friendly medium-grained granite with a warm yellowish hue will be used for the city floor.

Furnishings I The public furnishings are designed to be restrained as well as flexible with regard to possible future change requests. The equipment is concentrated on the equipment bands parallel to the facades. With sufficient permeability, lights, tubs, benches, wastebaskets, information carriers or bicycle racks can be accommodated here. The elements develop as simple
