Together with the Skate aid Foundation, we support the we_school initiative, which was launched by Ulrike Reinhard. In 2015, a youth center with an adjacent skate park is to be built near the small town of Panna with its 70,000 inhabitants.
The aim of the project is to create an atmosphere of free learning. In diverse and wide-ranging workshops, children and young people can acquire new knowledge and skills outside of regular school lessons. They can then apply these directly, for example by helping to build the skate park or by building or repairing boards themselves. Additional qualifications, such as manual skills, can significantly improve the quality of life of the children and their families. The young people's foreign language skills will also develop significantly, as only English will be spoken in the skate park.
Until now, there have been no opportunities for young people in Panna and the surrounding area to spend their free time in a meaningful way. As skateboarding is not a completely unknown sport in India thanks to television and the internet, the kids are looking forward to the opportunity to get on a board themselves. Parents in the region are also positive about the project, as it gives them the opportunity to spend more time with their children in the center and at the skate park.
As with all projects that skate-aid initiates or supports, sustainability is an important aspect in the realization of the ideas. The long-term goal is to accompany young people on their way to becoming self-confident and independent individuals who want to take responsibility for themselves and their environment
