Eibelstadt landscape lake with boat landing stage on the Main

The town of Eibelstadt planned the construction of a landscaped lake as a retention area and the construction of a landing stage on the Main.

In the course of these construction projects, the entire Main riverbank area from the new landscape lake to the "Aschenhügel" underpass was redesigned.

The planning area extended over 650 m in length and around 80 m in width.

The cycle and hiking path from Ochsenfurt to Würzburg in the direction of flow of the Main crosses this wide bank area and thus forms the development axis.

If you cross the cycle and hiking path at the "Aschenhügel" underpass, you can reach the Main directly via a gravel path.

To the left, stately poplar trees line up parallel to the Main, shading the existing Scaterplatz in summer. A beach volleyball court can be set up next to the scaterplatz to complement the leisure facilities.

Over time, the city has already removed every second poplar in this row of trees; the remaining tree stumps have been converted into seating.

A narrow gravel path is planned along the Main in the shade of the poplars.

Here you can already see that this path system is being accepted; another path leads along a planted embankment onto the Main and is a small "adventure trail" for young people.



Once a year, the town celebrates a large midsummer bonfire on the banks of the Main. This place has been a meeting point for many a long barbecue for years. You also need a barbecue, preferably on the spot.



An existing paved natural stone path, which was uncovered and upgraded as part of the construction work, leads to the new landing stage for passenger boats.
The waterfront promenade was lined with a row of trees appropriate to the location.

The riverside vegetation was removed in this area of the promenade and a stepped arrangement of shell limestone was added towards the Main.

This opens up the view of the Main and the slopes opposite.



The existing football pitch in the extension of the jetty was retained. The existing ball fence was removed for aesthetic reasons in order to keep the view of the riverbank vegetation and the new path to the landing stage clear.



The landscape lake covers an area of around 20,300 m² and, at an altitude of approx. 174.50 m above sea level, is around 2.70 m above the water level of the Main. The groundwater level here is equivalent to the hydrostatic pressure of the Main at an altitude of 171.83 m above sea level.



The landscape lake blends into the surrounding landscape as a near-natural body of water and serves the town of Eibelstadt as a retention area for the construction area in the south-east of the old town.

With the design of the embankments with different slope ratios of 1:3 to 1:8 in the shallow water area of the landscape lake, a water surface area of around 4,500 m² was achieved.



Here you can already see that it is a landscape lake with near-natural planting. The embankments have been planted in places with low, site-appropriate shrub plantings of willow, alder, coneflower, bird cherry and water snowball. The remaining embankment areas are sown with landscape turf as extensive areas.



The footpath was partially designed in the embankments as a water-bound gravel path and runs around the entire lake.


The landscaped lake with its near-natural design makes a significant contribution to enhancing and increasing the recreational and leisure value of the town of Eibelstadt.
